As the first initiative of its kind in the mortgage space, Retreat is a bespoke series of wellbeing events designed specifically for brokers across the UK. Launched during Mental Health Awareness Week in May 2024, these sessions aim to combat broker burnout, strengthen resilience, and equip brokers with practical self-care strategies. Retreat combines expert-led sessions, valuable networking opportunities, and practical tools to help brokers manage stress and enhance focus.

Our goal is to provide a restorative experience where brokers feel heard and supported. Retreatoffers a space for them to reconnect with themselves, learn new techniques to reduce stress, and gather the tools needed to thrive both professionally and personally.

This year’s lineup featured expert speakers and interactive exercises focused on empowering brokers to take control of their mental health and wellbeing. Emma Harris, CEO of Glow London, encouraged brokers to slow down and reconnect with themselves through powerful mindset resets. Her immersive techniques helped brokers combat burnout and rediscover balance.

When you’re in high pressure environment, most organisation and events you go to are going to be talking about the subject matter, mortgages, finance or customers. So, to give space for your brokers to focus on themselves that really leans into the brand and making them feel important is incredible.

As a brand expert I am really impressed that Pepper Money can step outside of the need to sell products and connect and create communities like this. Most people in the financial services are in a high stressful environment and not looking after themselves and everywhere we look there is so much burnout. To be able to give people half a day to step outside of that and learn some tactics to keep themselves safe is gold dust.”

Here's some of the great things that happened at our Manchester wellbeing event

Followed by a Q&A session with Paul Adams, Sales Director at Pepper Money, and William Lloyd-Hayward, co-founder of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MMHC). They discussed on how brokers can better navigate mental health challenges in the fast-paced mortgage industry and build resilience amidst the daily pressures.

“Pepper Money are at the forefront of supporting wellbeing not just for their staff but their business partners and customers.

The Be More You campaign isn’t just a phrases, it is an approach that Pepper are using to truly show the value of thinking about and focusing on yourself. It was a pleasure attend the Retreat Manchester and to discuss with Paul and many of the attendees about the work MIMHC are doing across our industry and share my own insights – a truly Rewarding day”

Jessie Laute, Breathwork & Wellbeing Coach, said “Events like Retreat are so important because first we need it, it’s so needed. The more I have been here today and the more people I have spoken to attending they have expressed that this is needed for them more than ever and they are so grateful to have this space to talk about it, raise awareness, but also learn tips and techniques to actually implement it day to day that’s helping them. So, I think event like these are wonderful.”

Building on the success of this year’s events, Pepper Money is committed to expanding the Retreat series even further in 2025 with upcoming events in London in July and Manchester in September. As part of our Be more you campaign, we continue to provide resources and support that help brokers succeed in their careers while maintaining balanced, fulfilling lives.
